The Mercy High School Honor Pledge: "As a woman of Honor, I pledge that this work is my own".

Objective: To provide Mercy High School students with a perspective on "big" issues that link events, trends and concepts being studied.

There are three types of journals. Each type of journal must be addressed properly.

1. Documents - Documents will be posted as links in the class website. The first paragraph should describe the document, including the author and the status of the author (is the author someone who observed the events or is the author analyzing the evens later?). The second paragraph should deal with the question, including the student's response and support from the document.

2. Anaysis question - The question will ask for a link between events or series of events, or will concern the influence of people on events or series of events. The first paragraph should describe the people/ events, the second paragraph should describe and support how the people/ events are linked.

3. Event question - The question will ask for a description of two or more events, and then how the events are related. The description of the link and the support of the opinion is the bulk of the grade. The description of the events should taske up one paragraph each, and the analysis of the links should take one or two paragraphs.

Standards - Journal responses must be typed and double spaced, and should take no more than a page.

An A Journal entry will accurately describe the status of the author or the events, and will clearly answer the question. The answer will include support from the document or the events for each assertion.

A B Journal entry will accurately describe the author or events, and will fairly clearly answer the question. The answer will include support from the document for most assertions.

A C Journal entry will describe the author or events, and will fairly clearly answer the question. The answer will include support from the document for some assertions.

A D Journal entry will either accurately describe the author,  or the events, or will include some support from the document.

An F Journal entry will meet no objectives.
