Welcome to Psycholgy for the 2nd semester of the 2015 - 2016 year. This syllabus will provide two tools for students (and parents). First, it will be a daily guide to the sequence of class, readings, and assignments.  Second, at the end of the semester it will provide a guide to studying for the exam. It will be updated weekly. If the sequence doesn't look correct to you or is out of date, your browser may be loading a stored page rather than the current page. Third Quarter Objectives: At the end of this quarter, the students should be able to:

                Chapter 1
1. Define and apply vocabulary
2. Explain the field of Psychology
3. Descibe the history of Psychology
4. Enumerate the different approaches to  defining behavior and mental processes
5. Explain the Scientific Method used in Psychology
6. Describe the various types of research
7. Discuss research sampling and setting
8. Summarize the ethics involved in conducting research
9. Discuss the concept that learning about psychology is learning about oneself

10.  Discuss the nature and  function of the nervous system
11. Identify the structure of the brain and summarize the functions
12. Describe how chemicals affect behavior
13.  Describe the brains capacity for recovery and repair
14. Explain how genetics increases our understanding of behavior

                 Chapter 3
15. Define the 5 senses
16. Describe the structure of the eye
17. Explain visual perception
18. Describe the structure of the eye
19. Explain auditory perception
20. Describe taste, smell, and touch
21. Summarize the interaction between the senses

                 Chapter 4

22. Discuss the nature of consciousness
23. Explain the purpose of sleep
24. Describe the stages of sleep
25. Define the types of psychoactive drugs
26. Explain hypnosis and its value in Psychology
