Rules and Expectations
Mr. Marchand

The Seton Keough High School
2015 - 2016

Welcome to the 2015 -2016 school year. Here are the expectations and rules for Mr. Marchand's Social Studies classes.

Expectations

1. Students should respect themselves. This includes eating something every morning before coming to school. Students who don't eat something (even a pop tart or a bowl of cereal) usually "run out of gas" about 10:30 or so and have a great deal of trouble concentrating. Care for yourself and your needs.

2. Students should respect others in the class. Students are expected to support other students in appropriate ways and to refrain from any negative or derogatory comments about  any other person.

3. A primary component of all of the courses is to read something every night. Most nights there will be assigned readings that follow up material covered in class that day. Students who read the sections and do the homework as a review will consistently take less time and retain more than students who try to find phrases in the assigned section.

4. Students should bring a notebook, their IPad and text to class each day, unless instructed otherwise by Mr. Marchand.

5. Students should CHARGE THEIR IPAD each night.

6.  Students should be in class on time.

7. Students are expected to use their IPads to focus on material being covered in class.

8. All students must have home access to the internet. "I'm grounded" or "I'm on restriction" is not a valid reason for missing academic work. Parents, internet assignements will be posted on the class syllabus.

9. Hacking occurs. If a student or parent finds anything inappropriate linked to a web site or hacked to a legitimate web address assigned in class, please inform Mr. Marchand immediately at dmarchand@setonkeough.com so the site can be taken down.

10. If in conference with Mr. Marchand over a disciplinary issue, the student needs to focus on her own behavior. Referrals to other students behavior are not part of the discussion.

11. Take care of printing outside school.

Rules

1. Proper uniform at all times unless specified by school activity or policy. Respect yourself and your class by dressing appropriately.

2. No gum

3. No phone use at all for any reason. Phones used in class will be confiscated. This includes taking pictures, videos, texting, calling or surfing the web.  Phone use, including files discovered on services such as Vine, will be automatically considered cheating.

4. No surfing or checking e-mail on the IPad in class.

5. No ear bud/IPod use in class unless specifically addressed in an IEP. Students may listen to music while doing individual seat work. Otherwise, ear buds are to be put away.

6. One person at a time to the rest room. All rest room visits are to be to the one next to room 210. Sometimes it is necessary for two students to go to the rest room. This exception should not be overused or abused.

7. No homework for other classes, remember its called HOMEwork.

8. Any disciplinary issue will require a one or two paragraph essay from the student explaining the circumstances of the infraction. It is requested that each student concentrate on her own behavior and not cite the behavior of others in her explanation. It is hoped that the student and Mr. Marchand can agree on the problem, and find a permanent solution that will prevent the problem from happening again.

9. The procedure described in #8 does not apply to CHEATING or PLAGIARISM. Plagiarism includes copying other student's work and acquiring papers from internet sources. Cheating and Plagiarism will result in immediate consequences. While other disciplinary issues will not affect a student's grade, Cheating and Plagiarism will result in a "0" for the test or project, and will impact the grade of the student.

10. No phones at any time

11. No gum EVER!!!

Thank you very much. Let’s have a great year.
